How to learn to play 8-note tongue drum? Tutorial #1 (beginner)

In this series of video tutorials I will give you some tips in order to improve at your own pace on your 8-notes Beat Root tongue drum. The goal is not to teach you how to play a piece of music but to teach you how to improvise on a Beat Root tongue drum.

In the first video I use the Melancholia scale, it is a G minor scale.

At the beginning of the video you will see the tuning system that allows you to change the scale.

What you will learn in Tutorial # 1 (Beginner Tutorial):

- how to play with both a hand and a mallet:

you can notice that I use my left hand to mute the notes that I do not want to hear on the tongue drum.

- how to go down the scale note by note on the tongue drum:

the first 4 notes played follow each other, so you can easily imagine how to go down all the notes of the scale. So it's simple to go up or down the scale note by note, just alternate Right and Left.

- create groups of notes:

when you want to build or play a melody with the tongue drum, you have to make "diagrams" or sequences of notes, which you repeat.

At first, I advise you to make groups of notes. In this Tuto # 1 I make groups of 5 notes that I repeat, only changing the last note of the group.

To sum up, it is a good exercise for a beginner to learn how to play this melody but it's even more important to remember how to build a melody, so in this tutorial we will especially retain the groups of 5 notes. I advise you to try to find your own melody to play on your tongue drum using this tip.
